What book are you reading right now?
I love historical text, for this particular post I will speak of the Bible’s I am reading from that point of view, I am not talking about the spiritual aspect at this time as right now this is what I am reading and why.
In my readings of several different bibles I have come to many understandings of places I might not ever or at least in this life time be able to visit.
My biblical inquiries began as a child…my transitional religious being also began at that time and has followed me into my adulthood. During my childhood the Bible was gate kept by those adults who where in charge of your spiritual development. As most children would do when they thought it was more than what they were and are being told they begin to ask questions or sometimes they are just that child who questions everything thing… I am the later.
My current view of the Bible offers me a historical perspective. It has provided me with insights into ancient cultures, societal structures, and religious practices. It has offered me a window into the beliefs, traditions, and historical events of the times in which its various books were written. Although I am not a scholar in this area and I am not analyzing the Bible to understand the context, language, and historical accuracy of the narratives it is shedding light on the social, political, and religious dynamics of the ancient world.
I don’t think I would have gotten this information in a class as when I did take religious studies it was less informative due to the structure of the class…besides reading the different ones on my own gives me a better appreciation for people and places.
It’s Saturday, 4:20 am here I am going to call my Daughter in Germany, talk to my 1 year old grandson and tell me son in law “Allie’s Gute zum Geburstag” , I hope that is Happy birthday…….no I know it is.. LOL.
