Hey Morris “What Time is it”……..

Name the most expensive personal item you’ve ever purchased (not your home or car).

Just a little lyric from Princess song “The Walk” sung by Morris Day and the Time, the song has nothing to do with the question…just this snippet does…..Long ago in a time far away when products you bought were well made and outlasted your life……

As a child on any given day my mothers, aunts and their friends wore gloves, hats and full skirts with petit coats or dress with slips beneath them, (Sundays was full attire…church day, if you know you know…LOL). They adorned their body’s with smelling good sauces, pearls and watches of great femininity and remarkable craftsmanship.

I lived in a world of buy quality over quantity, keep, repair or have it repaired if necessary ( the later was always the first option of a broken item) …..you are not throwing away anything useable because it rarely broke, this is when craftsmanship was an honorary profession. Manufactures stood by their products….. this is a good bridge into the topic….it’s early here…well it was when I started writing this…(I started thinking about it at 2:45am began doing something else (none of your business..LOL) it is 5:01am now. Back to the topic….

There were only two watches the women in my family wore…..Longines or Patek Philippe. These watches held a very important place in our family. My grandfather was not what you would call a wealthy man but for his daughters (he had 3) wedding presents he purchased a Patek Phillipe watch. At that time it was unheard of in a family that was not so well to do, but my grandfather worked hard he and my grandmother saved. The back story is these watches where not only well made they also had a return value as it aged was greater than when it was purchased.

My parents could not give me and my sisters at the time of our marriages such a present. I always loved the time piece and although I could not purchase that particular watch, when I graduated from secondary education, I brought myself something I considered its almost equal….a Longines watch. I scrimped and saved for my present to myself , when I gave it to me with much pump and style….it still makes me tear-up, just the thought warms my heart…

I can’t tell you what happened to my mom’s watch as the years went by and times changed no more pearls, gloves, hats or slips and the closes thing you could afford in a good time piece was timex….well I still have my Longines and yes it has increased in value….not the financial aspect of value but the emotional value you hold concerning times gone by…..

Once again it’s time to get up…..I am going back to sleep….I will probably dream of yester years…LOL

Here we are again on a wonderful Sunday it is a brisk morning (Andy needed to go out and when I opened the door the cold air let itself in and hits me…brrrr).

Do something today that will make you feel good…like skipping to the shower…( try it it will raise your good feeling chemicals called serotonin, endorphins and dopamine oh, that’s for another blog) you will be amazed at how silly you look….it’s in that silliness you can find a small piece of joy…..LOL. I dare you…

It’s another day to be great (in your own way)….

Donna
