Granny

Describe a family member.

My mom was Granny to all who knew her, she was a nurse by profession but naturally a care giver.

This woman stood 5ft 4 in, in her hay day she had a Pepsi bottle shape that she maintained until death. It wasn’t only the body that was well maintained her mind was golden.

She had six children whom she doted on. When we started having children she was there with and for each one of them. We never had outside food or fast food. She cooked 3meals a day on her off days and our grandmother would pitch in when needed.

On the weekends we would go outside clean our area like the rest of the neighborhood families. When we were through we would get our allowance. We could go skating or to the show. Usually if we went skating it was at a place called the Savoy, she would go with us.

On some school days she would have homemade fudge waiting for us or a treat she made from scratch.

All the old southern ways of raising children remained in our family and affected many others she attracted along her life path.

She would always tell us of her patients, the doctors and nurses she worked with every story had a life lesson. She made friends where ever she went, she was charming, smart and quick whittled.

When my mom “Granny“ made her transition there where so many people at the service they spilled into the street.

We had no idea how loved this little woman was….Granny is not gone, nor forgotten as every year on her birthday we have a celebration of life at this celebration we have her favorite foods, a how well do you know granny quiz and a overall good time in remembering her.

Today is a good day until you think it differently…so let’s have a good day today and let tomorrow wait……
