Which Kind?
This was my first thought as there are a variety of types of artist so for lack of clarity I am going to do two types of artist that come to mind mixed media painting and music.
These are some of my favorite male and female music artist. I grew up on, I won’t make an assumption that others have listen to any of these people and I am sure many of you have. But these musical geniuses and their earlier work are a must for me:
Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Ruth Brown, Lavern Baker and never least Etta James my, my my such good soul reaching sounds each woman great to me in there perspective genre….
Then we have the male musicians that are my favorite again in no specific order;
Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, And Mr. Ray Charles again love these people.
I only choose two individuals for mixed media art: one male and female
Romare Beard, 1930 artist, I was able to go to the Metro politeness Museum of Art in New York where I was privy to view a number of his works one most noted is his 1971 collage “The Block”…amazing.
Harriet Powers she was a slave born in Georgia I think around 1837. Ms. Powers made story telling quilts, these bring tears to my eyes my grandmother made quilts so this makes her work more important to me. I was able to see some of her work in the National Musem of American History in Washington.
This is just an example of my favorite artist……I could go on and on…..about these as there is a great number of them, some well know and others barely known.
